New courthouse will meet current needs, have room to grow for future

Within the next year, the new Santa Rosa County courthouse is expected to be complete and by next summer, court should be in session. Construction is running smoothly – on time and on budget, according to county officials Friday morning.

Raider track team ready for a new season

Navarre head track coach Tony Carter watches as his athletes go through another practice on a weekday afternoon and he points to the potential this team of nearly 200 holds for this season.

“The kids are working hard and we have a lot of young talent,” Carter said. “We have some freshmen and sophomores who can make an impact this year and some seniors out for the sport for the first time that are impressive, too. I’m excited.”

Marshall makes the best of a difficult situation

Amira Marshall’s dream of competing at the 3A state girls weightlifting meet ended unexpectedly.

Navarre’s senior standout in the unlimited division had to quarantine before the district meet last month, ending all hope of returning to state and contending for a top three finish for the Raiders.

Water management district lends Calkins a hand

Santa Rosa County District 3 Commissioner James Calkins floated his “Protecting Water and Saving Jobs Initiative” as a supplement to the Comprehensive Plan borrow pit expansion amendment that the county now seems to be abandoning.

However, the initiative could become part of what the county does next, if commissioners vote Feb. 25 2021, to drop the borrow pit issue as it is currently.

Second place finish not good enough for Raider lifters

Even with a second-place finish at the Northwest Florida Invitational last Wednesday afternoon at Baker, Navarre’s boys weightlifting team isn’t satisfied with the result.

This is a program that was the state runner-up in 2018 and won the state title in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic ended hopes of a repeat in 2020.

Golf course survived 2020, future planning underway

Holley Navarre Water System board members received updates on the Club at Hidden Creek course at their monthly meeting Feb. 16.

The unaudited 2020 year to date financials included the news that there were about 7,000 fewer rounds played that year than in 2019.
