If you have spent any amount of time by the waters of the Emerald Coast, there’s a good chance you have seen a Brown Pelican.
This coastal bird is identifiable by its large, pouched bill, brownish-gray feathers, rich chestnut hind neck, yellow crown and throat.

Climbing in remembrance
It’s been 22 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a day in which 343 firefighters, along with thousands of others died. Along the Emerald Coast, firefighters haven’t forgotten about those sacrifices.
