Fireworks legal for first time this July 4

This July Fourth will be the first that Florida residents can legally set off fireworks, as long as they don’t light the fuse in a municipality of homeowners association that bans it. Gov. Ron DeSantis passed a bill last year allowing to people to legally set off fireworks on July 4, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

In the past, many Floridians traveled out of state to buy fireworks. Locally, only small items like sparklers and snakes could be sold without a permit prior to HB 140. Local firework sellers offered large selections this year.

Child caught in rip current, rescued by surfer

An 11-year-old boy who was pulled out by a rip current Wednesday evening is safe thanks to a young surfer.

“The boy was out near the end of the Navarre Pier by the time the surfer reached him,” said Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Chief Danny Fureigh. “He definitely was in pretty bad shape, swallowed a bunch of water, vomited it all back up in our truck.”

Out and About

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and we’re expecting busy beaches, businesses and roadways.

We’re also expecting one of the biggest local fireworks shows on July 4th at 9 p.m., which will be shot from the end of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier.
