Ten lifters will compete for Navarre at next Saturday’s 3A state weightlifting meet in St. Cloud. The Raiders are the reigning champs in 2A but moved up to 3A this season.

Navarre won’t go into this year’s meet favored to win it but the Raiders do have several lifters who could place at state, including TJ Peltier, who is ranked second in his weight class.

Park ranger recognized for saving two Navy cadets from drowning

Violent waves crashed the shore March 27 as U.S. park ranger Andrew Robinson dove into the cold Gulf of Mexico at Opal Beach to save two distressed swimmers about 100 yards out.

A 25-year-old male and a 19-year-old female, both Navy cadets, got caught in a rip current that pushed them out into the rough waters past the breaking point that Saturday afternoon. Robinson scanned the water after being alerted by a beachgoer and noticed them struggling to stay afloat. He immediately took action.

Fire heavily damages home, displaces local family

The Holley-Navarre Fire District responded to an early morning Wednesday in the 8900 block of Orlando Avenue.

The call came in about 3 a.m., with the caller advising that the house was filled with smoke and the fire was coming from the area of a gas grill on the lanai in the rear of the residence. Everyone was out of the house, the caller said.
