We have had a busy couple of weeks gathering information for our graduation section of this week’s issue.
Even though graduation happens every year it always sneaks up on us, and apparently school staff and parents as well.

The highly anticipated Navarre Park remodel has completed its first phase of upgrades. Santa Rosa County held a ribbon cutting Saturday, April 30 and all five commissioners came out to celebrate, along with Florida House Representative Alex Andrade and people involved in the improvements.

James DiPilla has loved computers since he was a child. He got his first Toshiba laptop as a Christmas gift at age 13. By the age of 15, he fixed the laptop by ordering parts off eBay.

In 2000, there were around 20,000 people in Navarre, according to census numbers. Now there are more than 41,000 people.

With the tragic news of Cassie Carli’s body being discovered in Alabama, the search efforts of friends, family and volunteers ended.
The Navarre community and other parts of Northwest Florida helped in the search effort over the six days that Carli was missing.
DeSantis signs controversial ‘parent’s rights’ bill, draws ire, praise

On Mar. 28, Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1557 also known as the Parental Rights in Education Bill. The bill, which has garnered controversy, requires district school boards to comply with provisions of law for notifying student’s parents of specified information. According to the description on the Florida Senate website, the bill also prohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in grade levels Kindergarten through third and authorizes parents to bring legal action against school districts.
Cassie Carli still missing, search continues into weekend

Last Sunday night, Cassie Carli went missing sometime after 7 p.m. from Navarre Beach.
Carli was at Juana’s boat ramp to conduct a child custody swap with Marcus Spanevelo, Carli’s former partner and the father of their daughter, Saylor.
According to Sheriff Bob Johnson, Spanevelo is the last person to see her.
