Judge backs state in fight over damages

TALLAHASSEE — In the latest chapter in a long-running legal battle, a circuit judge has ruled that the Florida Department of Transportation cannot be forced to pay damages to bondholders because of lost toll revenues on a Panhandle bridge.

The ruling by Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper centered on the Garcon Point Bridge, which spans part of Pensacola Bay but has never produced enough money from tolls to pay off bonds that financed its construction.

Leggett bets on himself and makes it pay off

Tommy Leggett was all but ignored by recruiters coming out of Navarre High. But that never stopped the former Raider football standout from believing in himself.

Four years later, Leggett is in a position most doubted he’d ever be in, standing tall as a captain and a starting safety for the Red Raiders.

Letters to Editor

The Navarre Press asked readers to tell us what they are thankful for this year. Here’s a sampling of our favorites.

‘I am grateful for many things’

That my youngest daughter graduated college (ceremony and all) in December, before the lockdowns.
That despite having to cancel a trip to NYC (with my daughters) and a dream trip to Italy (birthplace of my grandparents), that our family was lucky enough to have gone to Alaska and France the last two years. Great trips.
