Disturbing books in our school libraries

Who knew at some point in time we would be discussing sexually explicit books allowed in our school libraries? And yet, here we are.

At last week’s county commission meeting, citizens showed up (and some showed out) to proclaim their disgust at the books being allowed in the libraries across our school system.

It’s been maybe 20 years now since I covered a high school baseball championship series in another state. Some of the memories are a blur. Others are lost forever.

I’m pretty sure the team I covered won the title, but what I remember for certain is that it was a unique set up in that a best of three format was used to determine a champion.

Navarre DL Will Payton back playing football after future once in doubt

Will Payton was in pain. A concern, perhaps, but then, maybe there wasn’t much of a reason to read too much into it. Aches and pains come with the territory in the unforgiving sport of football.

“At first, I thought it was just breaking back into practice, but the more I practiced, the worse it got,” Payton said. “I started to realize I need to get this checked out. Something is wrong.”

Gulf Breeze doctor at center of FDLE investigation, accused of running ‘pill mill’

Dr. Elaine Sharp of Gulf Breeze is facing possible criminal charges and the loss of her ability to practice medicine following an investigation into a possible ‘pill mill’ scheme being run out of her office, allegedly contributing to the overdose death of a patient.

On June 22, the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) issued an emergency restriction of Sharp’s license to practice as a medical doctor in the State of Florida. Under the order, she can still practice but cannot order or prescribe controlled medications.

Blue Wahoos clinch first-half division title

Winning isn’t the only thing, but it seems to be a regular thing for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Especially when it comes to championships. The reigning Southern League champs clinched the first-half South Division crown Wednesday night in Tennessee, beating the Smokies 3-1.
