Sun rises over risen Son celebration

This past Sunday, a small group from Compass Community Church (compassefca.org), where I am the pastor, gathered before dawn at a picnic pavilion alongside Santa Rosa Sound for a sunrise service.

Our huddled group greeted one another with a subdued, “Happy Easter!” or “Christ is risen!” and the response, “He is risen indeed!” It was early and it was cold.

School closures due to COVID-19 were extended through May 1. Santa Rosa County’s last day of classes was set for May 29 so the decision was made by the school district that students would not return for in-person schooling for the 2019/2020 school year.

Saylor Marlow and Faith Nicholson have soared to the top of their class at Navarre High School.

Marlow and Nicholson were announced earlier this month as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of their graduating class.

Harris-Toliver among winners at Patriot Invitational

Renee Harris-Toliver turned in a strong performance for Navarre’s track team at the Patriot Invitational last Thursday in Pace.

Harris-Toliver won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.80 and she placed second in the 100, clocking in with a time of 14.07.

Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Transportation coordinated a checkpoint to screen every non-commercial vehicle entering the Florida Panhandle on Interstate 10. The checkpoint was part of an executive order issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis legally requiring individuals that had been to COVID-19 hot spots in the past two weeks to self-quarantine for 14 days while in the state. Violating the order was a misdemeanor criminal offense.
