Scott Vines has lived, and saved, many lives in his 67 years on this earth. Most would consider Scott to be a hero, but to him, it’s all just part of the job. For 21 years, spanning from 1973-1994, Vines served as a medic in the Navy and Army.
South Santa Rosa Caring and Sharing (SSRCS) held its annual Christmas distribution preparation event this weekend at Holley-Navarre Intermediate School (HNIS). Dozens of volunteers gathered Dec. 17 and 18 to help fill boxes with essential items for hundreds of families in need across South Santa Rosa County.
Sandy Conner was on a date with someone else the day she met John, her future husband.
Her date’s car battery died in front of the house Sandy was staying at that night with a friend. He was dropping her off. John happened to be down the street in his front yard hanging out with friends.
Two weeks before Christmas, a moving truck is parked in the driveway of a home in a small neighborhood just outside of Holley by the Sea. A “for sale” sign swings in the front yard.
The young man who answers the door explains they are moving out, rather than moving in. It was easy selling the home, he says.
Mackenzie England was in the middle of an interview when her older brother, Tyler, a former Navarre football standout, put his arm around her and said, ‘This girl is big time.’
He’s not lying. England was on another level Thursday night as Navarre battled Crestview in a matchup of state-ranked girls basketball teams.
Navarre’s boys basketball team spent part of its Saturday watching film from the night before. A 12-point loss to Milton on Friday left the Raiders in need of a bounce-back win.
That film session paid off. Navarre bounced back against Catholic Saturday night with a 63-32 win that was fueled by its best defensive performance of the season.
Kyle Chambers faked the handoff and took off running, eluding a few defenders and barreling over another before finally being brought to the ground after a gain of just over 20 yards in Friday’s Pensacola Sports All-Game.
That kind of run wasn’t anything new for Chambers. The Navarre quarterback made those moves all the time before suffering a collarbone injury in late October that ended his senior season.
