Navarre pub crawl benefits Fisher House

The 10th annual Navarre Beach Pub Crawl benefitted Fisher House, a foundation that builds comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital. Participants started at Juana’s Pagodas and made their way to multiple bars throughout the day May 22, ending at Stripes Pub & Grill.

County reports itself to county for site erosion

The Board of County Commissioners approved spending $64,000 more on Navarre Park renovations in order to prevent future erosion. High waves during a recent severe weather event caused some erosion around a pipe. More rip rap has been added to the design. County officials said no fill left the site during the erosion event, but a small amount of sand did get into the Santa Rosa Sound. The county reported the incident to the county.

Brush fire that slowed U.S. Highway 98 traffic has been contained

Gulf Islands National Seashore, in coordination with local fire departments, contained a brush fire in the Naval Live Oaks Area May 21.

Fire crews and park staff are currently on scene to monitor the situation and remove any remaining tinder. The public is urged to use caution and avoid the area.

DeSantis backs school history guidelines

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday he urged state education officials to put new guidelines on how U.S. history is taught in public schools. The State Board of Education on June 10 will consider a proposed rule that says teachers “may not define American history as something other than the creation of a new nation based largely on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence.
