Vacant mobile home heavily damaged in fire

A Valentine’s Day fire completely destroyed a mobile home, according to a Holley-Navarre Fire District press release.

The call came in just after 5 a.m. of a structure fire on the southside of U.S. Highway 98 near Walmart. The call was actually in the 2000 block of Blankenship Road.

Public hearing slated for Interstate-10 widening

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a hybrid public hearing concerning the I-10 Widening Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Studies from west of State Road (S.R.) 281 (Avalon Boulevard) to west of County Road (C.R.) 189 (Log Lake Road) and from west of C.R. 189 (Log Lake Road) to east of S.R. 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties Tuesday, March 15.

Milton man pulls Fort Walton mayor out of burning car

A Milton tow truck driver is being hailed as “Our Hero – Our Angel” by the mayor of Fort Walton Beach’s family after saving him and his wife from a burning vehicle.

Mayor Dick Rynearson and his wife, Janey, were heading to a gas station off Interstate 10 near Live Oak Jan. 26 when their car was t-boned and burst into flames.

Navarre Beach has ‘big parking problem’

Events sponsored by nonprofit groups on Navarre Beach, especially during the high season, came under fire at last week’s Tourist Development Council meeting. Specifically, concerns were expressed about these events taking up parking spaces, a particularly valuable commodity now that tourism has increased threefold in the last half-dozen years.
