Two weeks before Christmas, a moving truck is parked in the driveway of a home in a small neighborhood just outside of Holley by the Sea. A “for sale” sign swings in the front yard.
The young man who answers the door explains they are moving out, rather than moving in. It was easy selling the home, he says.
Just in time for the holidays, readers helped Navarre Press reach its goal of helping one Santa Rosa County veteran get a Healing Paws for Warriors dog in 2022.
The dogs, which are mostly rescues, are trained to support veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury or other emotional and mental trauma.
Mackenzie England was in the middle of an interview when her older brother, Tyler, a former Navarre football standout, put his arm around her and said, ‘This girl is big time.’
He’s not lying. England was on another level Thursday night as Navarre battled Crestview in a matchup of state-ranked girls basketball teams.
Three conservation groups moved Monday toward filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection over water-quality problems that have led to a record number of manatee deaths this year in Florida.
Navarre’s boys basketball team spent part of its Saturday watching film from the night before. A 12-point loss to Milton on Friday left the Raiders in need of a bounce-back win.
That film session paid off. Navarre bounced back against Catholic Saturday night with a 63-32 win that was fueled by its best defensive performance of the season.
Kyle Chambers faked the handoff and took off running, eluding a few defenders and barreling over another before finally being brought to the ground after a gain of just over 20 yards in Friday’s Pensacola Sports All-Game.
That kind of run wasn’t anything new for Chambers. The Navarre quarterback made those moves all the time before suffering a collarbone injury in late October that ended his senior season.
Bryan Moore, who was visiting relatives in Milton, had his camera out taking photos of surfers when he saw Santa on this fly-by. He caught the image and then found Santa’s name on social media. According to Moore’s research, Jacques Burton “loves to see the kids freak out.” You never know what you’ll see at the beach! Thanks Bryan for sharing this fun photo!
Looking for a way to help out the local animal population this holiday season? Consider donating to Project Hallelujah, an initiative to get a growing population of feral cats in Pace neutered or spayed.
“The Project Hallelujah cats are so overpopulated that each new litter is sick and dying,” said a press release from A HOPE, which has stepped in to help the caregivers, who have been trying to control the population by trapping the animals, neutering them and returning them to live out their natural lives.
