Navarre family loses home to fire

Early morning, Tuesday, Oct. 31, smoke and fire engulfed a Navarre home on Fort Worth St. Firefighters with Holley Navarre Fire District (HNFD) and other responding units were able to put down the fire but the damage was done. As it stands now, the house is a shell of its former self.

“No one reads newspapers anymore”

It was a statement we heard at a national business conference and that wasn’t the only remark we heard about our industry. “Journalists go to journalism school to learn how to ask stupid questions.” This particular speaker had been the subject of “gotcha” journalism in the past. Every time an employee left his company it made the front page of the local newspaper. They referred to him as a cult leader and worse.

Out and About

We want to send some love out to Santa Rosa County Animal Services. They are being recognized for saving more than 90% of the dogs and cats that entered the shelter last year. We think that is an amazing number of saves – animals that got adopted rather than euthanized. We see them working hard to find those dogs and cats their forever homes. The staff there truly cares about the animals, and we celebrate you!

School board candidate goes to Sheriff’s Office with book complaint

A school board candidate in Santa Rosa County has been caught up in controversy following a visit to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 25. Jennifer Tapley, a candidate for Santa Rosa school board district 2, along with Tom Gurski, went to the Sheriff’s Office with a complaint about Jay High school’s librarian after a student checked out a book Tapley considered to be “pornographic.”
