Unique approach to teaching serves Bryan well at WNI

It’s hard for one to determine if room 402 at West Navarre Intermediate School is a concert hall or a classroom.

Janet Bryan’s third graders are singing along to music by The Beatles as they work on an art project. This teaching approach is by design and Bryan has leaned on it during her 21 years of teaching. She’s been at WNI since 2005.

Scott seeks success for students

Fifth-grade inclusion teacher Annie Scott comes from a family with 100 years of teachers. Teaching is in her blood.

“There has never been a doubt in my mind that this is what I wanted to do,” she said.

Annie Scott was recently named Teacher of the Year at Holley Navarre Intermediate School, where she has taught for five years.

The one thing every business needs is customers, and they are in short supply in Gulf Breeze. Editor Wendy Victora Rudman spent time there last week and talked to a number of business owners struggling to survive. They are not asking for charity, just business. Do it for yourself, not them. Business is booming at the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s Prado Street offices and it’s more than just the chamber doing business.

Last month, all of the Navarre Beach Chamber Information Center offices were officially rented out, completing the vision for the chamber’s new home.

What’s up with Dickey’s

Dickey’s Barbecue is still coming to Navarre. The opening is just taking longer than expected. There have been a few holdups due to Hurricane Sally and sorting out logistics with the landlord. Managing partner Karen Edwards said they have made some progress on the structural repairs in the kitchen, but still have to work on other parts of the restaurant before it will be ready for the grand opening in the spring of 2021.

County tourism cashes in $3.5 million

Tourism losses from COVID-19 in Santa Rosa County were only a fraction of what was projected.

The final tourism tax report for fiscal year 2019-2020 presented Nov. 5 left Tourist Development Council (TDC) members smiling. The year totaled more than $3.5 million of revenue to the county’s tourism promotion arm.
