Animal Shelter dog adoptions closed until Oct. 7

Santa Rosa County Animal Services dog adoption operations remain closed at the shelter facility until Mon., Oct. 7 due to a bacterial illness called Mycoplasma cynos. SRCAS shelter and medical staff are treating the affected dogs and hope to be clear for regular adoption operations next week. Cat adoptions remain open.

BISSELL Pet Foundation fall national “Empty the Shelters” event begins October 1

With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From October 1 – 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 390 shelters in 44 states. Pensacola Bay Mini-Golf Melee brings community leaders, scouts together

While it wasn’t the Masters at Augusta, Georgia, there plenty of excitement in the air for the first ever Pensacola Bay Mini-Golf Melee. The mini-golf event, put on by the Gulf Coast Council of Scouting America’s Pensacola Bay District, brought together a variety of local organizations and leaders from Escambia and Santa Rosa County for friendly competition and to raise funds for local Scouting activities.

NYSA building dealing with flooding

The Navarre Youth Sports Association is looking for help after heavy rains flooded their main building, gym, and other complexes. The rains came over the weekend of Sept. 14 and by Monday, Sept. 16 the NYSA had serious enough flooding issues that Santa Rosa County’s Facilities Management Department were coming by to assess damage.

It seems this county is often all feasibility studies and surveys and no real action.


Perhaps this time will be different. Perhaps this time we will finally get the public outdoor pool Santa Rosa County so desperately needs, and that honestly, should have been a reality a long time ago.
