Children’s author Elissa Brent Weissman captured the attention of students at Holley-Navarre Intermediate School Friday morning during three different assemblies in the cafeteria.
More shopping opportunities are coming to Navarre with a new plaza behind Pak ‘N Fax located on the corner of Laredo Street and Hwy 87 South. Susan Hardwick, the owner of Pak ‘N Fax is building the retail center.
The 12 projects chosen by the RESTORE council and vetted through the county commissioners in September will move forward as a group or a Multi-Year Implementation Plan (MYIP) this month to the Department of Treasury. Commissioners Rob Williamson and Bob Cole both expressed misgivings about the Second Chance Outreach project, but they were encouraged by Commissioner Layne Lynchard and county grant coordinator Sheila Fitzgerald to leave the plan as is. Cole was also uneasy about the Quinn Street Marina in the City of Milton. “I feel like the money would be better applied to moving the waste water treatment plant,” Cole said. Fitzgerald clarified the procedures.
In the early morning hours of Jan. 30, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an Avalon Boulevard Circle K regarding a suspicious person who was seen walking up to the front door of the establishment wearing a hood and mask but never made entry into the building. The suspect left in a pickup truck before deputies arrived.
The Raiders easily won the Regional (also called the sectionals or state qualifying) meet at Navarre on Jan. 19. The Raiders scored 103 points in the meet. The next closest team was Pine Forest, scoring 26 points.
With so many of our country’s vital military personnel working and living inside of our local area, citizens in Santa Rosa County have long been involved in programs dedicated to giving back to our local veterans. The families and friends of these American servicemen and servicewomen have in fact been some of the most active participants in veteran-focused activities. As a community, citizens of Santa Rosa County have shown an extensive record of heartfelt pride and support for all of our veterans and military personnel.
Construction of the $30 million SpringHill Suites on Navarre Beach has resumed after overcoming some obstacles, and the 161-room hotel is tentatively scheduled to open in December.
The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating two armed robberies, one occurred in Navarre and the other in Milton, both along State Road 87. As of press time, investigators were still investigating with no new updates.
A fight between two men at the Navarre Park restrooms on Saturday morning Jan. 23 led to one of them being arrested for an arson that had just occurred.
