Tension was in the air Jan. 22 at the regional meet held in Navarre. Over 200 girls competed for 10 automatic invitations to the state meet. Only the first-place winner in each of the 10 weight classes was guaranteed a spot in the state meet.
Cheryl Deas landed in Jacksonville at 1:30 a.m. Eastern Time last Tuesday after a late-night flight from Washington D.C. She was originally scheduled to land at 10 p.m. last Monday. Delays changed that plan.
