Gulf Breeze finalizes plan to ‘hurricane-proof’ utilities

The city of Gulf Breeze has finalized plans to revamp its infrastructure with nearly $18 million in upgrades. These long-term resiliency initiatives have been in the works for the past two years, following a City Council planning retreat that focused on bolstering the city’s infrastructure to better withstand extreme weather events.

Raider boys basketball team took steps forward this summer

On a Friday morning inside Pensacola State’s Hartsell Arena, Navarre’s boys basketball team is in the midst of a tight battle with Washington during a summer hoops tournament at Pensacola State.

The fact that the Raiders are back on the court for live action in the summer for the first time since 2019 is a huge deal. The opportunity was taken away last summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wanted: Beach life superheroes, training provided

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue wants to build their team of beach superheroes, otherwise known as lifeguards. Tryouts will be held 8 a.m Saturday, July 10 at Navarre Beach Marine Park at access 40D. Applicants will be asked to swim 400 meters of open water and run 1 mile on the beach in less than 18 minutes, followed by a Surf Rescue Lifeguard Academy July 12-17.

Parcels still being scouted for new south-end high school

Navarre High School, which ended the school year with just over 2,200 students, isn’t far from reaching its full capacity of 2,369.

With that in mind and more growth on the way, Santa Rosa County School District officials are in the process of negotiating for a parcel of land between Navarre and Gulf Breeze that would be ideal for a new high school.
