Locals and tourists search for mystery ‘Mermaid Mailbox’ in the Sound

It’s not every day that you see a mailbox surrounded by water. Maybe in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives, but not typically in the Santa Rosa Sound between Navarre and Fort Walton Beach.

People have been posting on social media since July about this mystery mailbox that some are referring to as the “Mermaid Mailbox” or the “Mailbox Beach.” Locals and tourists alike are checking out this community mailbox, which is only accessible by boat, to see what treasures are inside.

Sixth graders build and test bridges for stability

It’s not every day that you build a bridge with popsicle sticks in science class. Recently, East Bay K-8 sixth graders did just that.

“The students were given the task to build a prototype bridge (engineering & design) that would be used to connect two cities together that was separated by a river, and was 50 kilometers apart,” East Bay K-8 Earth/Space Science teacher Joseph D. Pritchard said.

We just wrapped up the 9th annual fishing rodeo and we are already looking forward to next year which will be our ten-year anniversary of the rodeo.

The next Navarre Fishing Rodeo will take place on October 1 and 2, 2022. (kind-of rhymes) I’ve been involved with the rodeo since the inception so I can say, with confidence, this wasn’t my first rodeo.

Museum savors memories of trains gone by

Wreaths Across America’s Mobile Education Exhibit tour made a stop in Navarre at the Navarre United Methodist Church parking lot on Tuesday. Three local veterans were honored by the Mobile Education Exhibit’s Ambassador and Driver Stefan Brann in front of a room full of family members and visitors.
