Santa Rosa County officials joined executives from Hershey’s Ice Cream on Oct. 24 to break ground on the company’s planned 30,000-square-foot distribution center located at the new Northwest Florida Industrial Park @ I-10, just south of the interstate.

Navarre’s Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge held their annual “Batty Fang-tastic” Halloween event Saturday, Oct. 21, to raise awareness and funds for their animal rehabilitation program, in addition to the other work they do there.

When most students (or people for that matter) think of the word “dissection,” they typically think of an animal, or maybe the smell of formaldehyde, but for students in Emily Simon and Danielle Hitchcock’s kindergarten classes, the word might conjure thoughts of a red and juicy fruit.

During September and October, the two teachers have been teaching lessons on various STEAM concepts using apples. STEAM is short for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

Few people think of a church as the place for a haunted house attraction, but for the Community of Christ Church in Navarre, it has become a tradition.

Although the event was last held in 2018, Danny Hawkins, Huston Hawkins and Jack Porter, the event organizers, haven’t forgotten the thrills (and chills) which make ‘Fear Forest’ a spectacle to behold.

A few weeks ago, I celebrated one more birthday by adding another notch to my belt. You see, each year on my birthday, my one request of my wife is that she prepare for me an obscene quantity of my favorite food – spaghetti with a cheesy bechamel sauce. My request always presents a moral dilemma for her, pitting her love for me against her concern for my health; that dish would be high on any cardiologist’s list of foods to avoid.

State invests in faith-based organizations to help communities

The Northwest Florida Health Network told church and faith-based nonprofit leaders last week that it can fund their community-based social services without interfering in how those services are provided.

“Governor DeSantis has had his people do all the legal work,” the Rev. Rick Hazelip of First City Church said Thursday, Oct. 19, at a “Faith Summit” at Brownsville Church. “All we have to do is open up our services to anybody, regardless of their beliefs. And then we do what we do.”

Hurlburt Field, Fla. – Extended Reality (XR) is revolutionizing the way Air Force Special Operations Command is approaching training and readiness. XR is an umbrella term that encompasses Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) to create a spectrum of experiences that range from fully virtual environments to overlays of digital content onto the real world. These technologies manipulate our perception of reality, hence the term “extended.” The manipulation of reality is at the core of XR, and it’s transforming the training landscape of AFSOC.
