The condominium collapse in Surfside was profoundly tragic. Daily news updates only confirmed our worst fears. Hope seemed so very elusive, yet stories of hope did emerge.

The Associated Press ran a story about a 12-year-old girl, who had come to the collapse site because her father and her uncle were residents of that building and had yet to be found.

It was eight years ago when Skip Orth, owner of Father and Son Pest and Lawn Solutions, first heard about human trafficking in a documentary and sparked a passion in him to assist human trafficking survivors.

“After watching the documentary, I was compelled to do research and learn as much as I could about this tragedy,” he said.

On Sunday, June 27th, James Dean Linsky, was baptized by his grandfather, Deane Linsky, a retired pastor. The way this event unfolded was a marvelous display of God’s providence, the family says.

A 50-plus page report on Waste Pro was included in the July 13 Board of County Commissioners meeting and, although I am writing this late on Monday, I’m sure there will be some fireworks there.

In summary, there were no improprieties as it relates to the county’s relationship with Waste Pro, but there are plenty of problems or potential problems within Waste Pro that fell outside of the scope of investigation.

Grandmother creates library in honor of teen

It was built in memory of her granddaughter, 14-year-old Skye Farej, who was killed in a Gulf Breeze house fire in 2018.

County administrator submits resignation letter

After over four years of service to Santa Rosa County, on Tuesday, July 13, County Administrator Dan Schebler submitted a letter to voluntarily terminate his employment agreement with Santa Rosa County. This will take place in 90 days.
