Junior lifeguards rescue ‘Tom Brady’ in final training session

If you happened to be on Navarre Beach on July 16, you may have noticed a group of small, tan lifeguards pulling a CPR dummy out of the water.

The dummy’s name is Brady, after football star Tom Brady, and the small lifeguards are the Navarre Beach Junior lifeguards, doing their final test after an intense two-week program where they learned everything from CPR to surfing to oceanography.

Brian Renner, a lifeguard since the 1980s, was teaching beach safety to Navarre Beach’s first class of Jr. Lifeguards. The program was designed to take children ages 9 to 15 through mental and physical training similar to the experience of a real lifeguard.

Santa Rosa County, Leonardo Celebrate Aerospace Milestone

Santa Rosa County leaders joined officials from Leonardo Helicopters to cut the ribbon on a new maintenance facility at Peter Prince Airport where the company will begin local operations on Wednesday morning, July 14. Leonardo is an Italian aerospace company with North American headquarters and industrial operations in Philadelphia, PA that is expected to bring 50 new, high-paying jobs to the area.

Remembering to play is never a bad thing

Once in a while, I remember to play.

What came so naturally to us as children is less obvious to our aging adult bodies and sensibilities. We have been conditioned to focus on dignity, task completion, responsibility and worrying what people will think about us.
