Judge backs DeSantis on unemployment money

A Leon County circuit judge Monday upheld a decision by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration to cut off federal unemployment money for tens of thousands of Floridians in June, rejecting arguments that the move violated state law.

I feel at times as if I’m dodging bullets doing my job amid the COVID-19 pandemic, wondering if I’ve been exposed and torn at times on when to wear my mask in a sports setting and when I’m good without one.

For the record, I’ve been vaccinated, and there was a time not too long ago where worries of the pandemic had faded away shortly after that vaccination. Our country seemed to be moving in the right direction.

Three years ago in Ryan Davenport’s first season as the head coach of Navarre’s volleyball team, the Raiders stumbled in their opener, losing in three games to Milton. Later that season, Navarre avenged the setback with a three-game win.

Which is why Davenport isn’t too concerned about last Tuesday’s season-opening loss to Milton in a match that had a playoff-like feel to it.
