Blazing stars at summit of native wildflower bloom

Being on top is usually a good position. It is the place which denotes exceptional accomplishment and has the best view, especially of those below who are looking up in anticipation of reaching the pinnacle.

There is one genus of a native wildflower that begins its colorful display at the top, literally. The blazing stars activate its annual flowering at the top of its towering bloom spike and works its way down the green stalk.

Lighthouse golfer wins conference title

Chase Guillot started playing golf when he was 12. It soon became his favorite sport.

“I used to play baseball,” Guillot said. “My dad became a member of a course and I went there and fell in love with the sport. I realized I was more talented in golf and baseball, so I made the switch.”

District 4 Commissioner Dave Piech gave an update on the proposed traffic light on Gulf Blvd. at Thursday’s Tourism Development Council meeting. The new traffic light system will cost $350,000 and will require over 250 days to execute.

UPDATED: Motorcyclist dies after Tuesday evening crash

The Florida Highway Patrol has sent updated information about a State Road 87 crash. The vehicles involved were not cars, as originally stated in the release. The 28-year-old Milton man, who has since died, was riding a motorcycle without the headlight on when he was struck by a Jeep driver who turned into him. The second driver was uninjured. The accident happened at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
