We have had a busy couple of weeks gathering information for our graduation section of this week’s issue.
Even though graduation happens every year it always sneaks up on us, and apparently school staff and parents as well.

Matt Wyatt reaches the top of his class as Navarre’s valedictorian

Matt Wyatt was 16th in his class at Navarre High midway through his freshman year and soon rose up the ranks as he made a push to being No. 1 in the Class of 2022.
It all worked out in the end for Wyatt, who is this year’s valedictorian.
Junior Lifeguard program ready to dive in again

Navarre Beach Lifeguards will host their annual Junior Lifeguard Program throughout June and July for students ages 9-13 and 14-15.
The program, now entering its third year, strengthens kids’ swimming and water-related skills while also teaching them about the ocean and waterways that are all around Northwest Florida.
Creating a new hub: Navarre Town Center project looking ahead

The developer for a potential commercial shopping center – Navarre Town Center – says the project is moving right along. The Navarre Press first reported on the possible Navarre Town Center in March.
The center, which is being considered for future development by Robert “Bob” Benaquis, would essentially be a downtown shopping center in Navarre.

The Northwest Florida region has a rich colonial history with the Spanish, French, and British all having occupied parts of the area before the United States even began.
There has been plenty studied and written about the colonial period of this region and a new book seeks to pull all that research together and give proper context to the Spanish era, specifically from 1698 to 1763.

As the pandemic ramped up in March of 2020, forcing a shutdown of the nation, the lights went out on Quentin Randolph’s dream of playing football beyond college.
His pro day at Florida A&M, where 15-16 NFL scouts were expected to be on hand, had been canceled. That meant the former Navarre and University of West Florida wide receiver, now living on his own, knew he had to literally still keep the lights on even if the lights had dimmed on his dream.
