Raider baseball team ready to ‘get after it’ this season

Chris Williams knows there’s one thing he’ll be able to count on this season from his Navarre baseball team. And that’s the drive to keep battling no matter what the situation is.

That much was evident last Wednesday night in a preseason game against Gulf Breeze. Trailing by three runs, the Raiders scored four in the sixth to come back to life.

Raiders win Northwest Florida Invite

On the strength of six first-place finishers in their respective weight classes, Navarre’s boys weightlifting team dominated the Northwest Florida Invitational Wednesday.

The Raiders scored 75 points, easily outdistancing the rest of the field by more 30 points.

Santa Rosa County cold weather shelter open Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19

The cold weather shelter for the homeless and/or heatless will open Fri., Feb. 18 and Sat., Feb. 19 at Ferris Hill Baptist Church, 6848 Chaffin St. in Milton.

Those who would like to stay at the shelter must arrive between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Only service animals (with verification of rabies vaccination) are permitted to stay with guests. No one will be admitted after 8:30 p.m. unless brought in by law enforcement. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning.

Navarre Aldi to open March 10

The highly anticipated Navarre Aldi is set to open March 10, according to District 4 county commissioner Dave Piech. The store is located at 8816 Navarre Parkway, which is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Ortega Street.

Construction progress has been evident as multitudes of traffic pass the site of the new Aldi daily. The blue sign outlined in red, orange and yellow has been up for months. The siding is up, and the parking lot is paved and striped. And in a few more weeks, shoppers will fill the aisles.

Sweet 16 loss to Nease closes door on another historic season for Raiders

That final buzzer went off as the clock struck zero, and the heartbreak was beginning to feel real for Navarre’s girls basketball team.

Their dream of a state championship run was over, those hopes were ripped away in a 52-48 Sweet 16 loss to Nease last Tuesday night at home, and it was visibly evident that the pain of defeat hit hard.

Navarre Beach to host 36th Annual Mardi Gras Parade this Saturday

Celebrating 36 years of family-friendly fun, floats and beads, the Navarre Beach Mardi Gras Parade is set to roll rain or shine Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. along Gulf Boulevard.

The parade starts at Indiana Street and Gulf Boulevard, and continues east on the boulevard, ending at the Navarre Beach Causeway. The event typically attracts tens of thousands of people – locals and tourists alike.
