The saying goes, “You learn something new every day.” I have something worth sharing.

During World War II, with all it’s horrible statistics, Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued Bible New Testaments with metal covers, a blessing, as follows: To the Army, on the inside cover was our beloved American flag. On the next page FDR, by letter, admonished them to “Read the Bible.”

It’s time to end time changes

Ben Franklin did a lot of great things for this country. One of his bright ideas that I am not found of, and really hate to be honest, is daylight-saving time.

Well, that’s not entirely true. I actually prefer daylight-saving time. What I don’t like is the switch back to standard time.

On a recent flight to Indiana, I was only half-listening to the safety orientation, that is until the flight attendant said a word that made me pay closer attention.

The word itself was not provocative, it was her pronunciation that captured my attention. “To tigh-en your seatbelt belt,” she informed, “simply pull on the strap.” Tigh-en? What happened to the “T”?

Navarre First Assembly to hold annual missions event March 25

The banquet is not only an opportunity to raise money but to explore the cultures of the various congregants at Navarre First Assembly.

Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge hosts spring break camp

While students and teachers had a week off from school during spring break, the folks at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge were hard at work hosting a spring break camp for kids ages 8 to 13. Despite hosting camps before, this was the first time Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge had hosted one during spring break.

The purpose of the camps at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge are to help educate youth on all things animalia, from biology to ecology to the dangers they face from humans and other animals.

Offseason work making a difference for Tyler Lewis

Tyler Lewis gets up each day before the sun rises to make the trip over from Navarre to the University of West Florida Aquatic Center in Pensacola.

The high school season is still several months away, but for Lewis, a sophomore on the Raider swim team, the work never stops as he’s currently swimming for the Great Pensacola Aquatic Club.
