Out and About

I always breathe a sigh of relief when the Florida Legislature’s final gavel goes down like it did on Friday, May 5.

They can always call a special session, but at least it is officially over for the year. You never know what they are going to do, what special favors will be called in or what might have been added to a bill at the last minute. I have been intimately involved in several bills over the years, especially when it comes to bills regarding public notices in newspapers vs. government websites.

Mars Hill next stop for Raider lifter Bryce Eberhardt

Bryce Eberhardt wasn’t quite sure how good he would be in weightlifting when he first started high school.

He’s come a long way since his freshman year at Navarre, winning a state championship this season and is now gearing up to compete in the sport in college.

Brian Out Loud

I’ll never pretend to be an expert when it comes to movie reviews.

But if you haven’t seen “Air” yet, it’s worth the price of admission.

Navarre teams going to international SeaPerch competition

According to the United States Geological Survey, about 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water. Here in the Navarre area, we are no strangers to water ourselves.

At Navarre High School and Navarre Beach Marine Science Station, students have been making machines, known as remotely operated vehicles (ROV), that operate underwater and can perform tasks, from collecting samples to providing a glimpse at life under the water.

For God’s Sake: Concert serves as cultural kaleidoscope

Recently, I had a rich experience that was pure joy for me. I was invited to play in a band assembled for a one-time concert of soul music.

The concert was part of a weekend event designed to raise funds for an inner-city ministry in New Orleans whose goal is to create a safe neighborhood where kids can ride their bikes safely.

Mother’s Day through the eyes of faith leaders

Mothers play an important role in our lives. They also play an important role in the Bible, especially Mary, the mother of Jesus, who Christians believe was not only the Son of God but the salvation of all mankind.

With Mother’s Day coming up, Navarre Press reached out to several female church leaders in the Navarre area to talk about motherhood and how it intertwines with their faith.

Town Center public hearing expected later this year

The Navarre Town Center project, a commercial development that has been floated around as idea for about 20 years, is currently under the review by Santa Rosa County Development Services.

According to county records, the plans for the project were officially submitted April 21.

Navarre alum Michael Sandle finding his stride at Triple-A level

With one swing of the bat Michael Sandle absolutely crushes the pitch fired at him. He sends the ball screaming over the wall in left and then rounds the bases at Greater Nevada Field in Reno as if it was no big deal.

Sandle has hit home runs before in his career. In high school. In college. Even in the pros. But this one is different for the Navarre alum.
