First Grace’s Place Gala draws appreciative crowd

The simple interior of the Beach House at Holley by the Sea was transformed into an elegant dining space for some 60 people dressed in finery and gathered for the first annual Grace’s Place Gala, held Dec. 4.

A crew of dedicated volunteers descended on the Beach House only hours before to set up tables with linen tablecloths and handcrafted centerpieces. They hung decorative lights and set up a large, colorful balloon ring. 

Citizens eyes rate hikes, grapples with growth

Preparing to approve proposed rate increases, leaders of Citizens Property Insurance Corp. expressed continued frustration Tuesday at rapid growth in the state-backed insurer — and that rates aren’t higher.

“At the end of the day, from our perspective, we continue to grow in a company that is supposed to be shrinking,” Citizens Board of Governors Chairman Carlos Beruff said as committees met in advance of a full board meeting Wednesday. “And that is because we have huge advantages in the marketplace that other companies don’t have.”

Holley-Navarre Primary’s Balsavich appointed to principal

Daniel Balsavich, assistant principal at Holley-Navarre Primary School, was unanimously recommended to become the new principal of HNPS at the Dec. 9 Santa Rosa County School Board meeting. Balsavich will fill the vacancy left by Alexandra Timmons, who was recently promoted to director of risk management for the school district.

Citrus company says production down, prices up

The major Florida citrus company and landowner Alico, Inc. saw harvested boxes of fruit decrease during the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30 but got a boost from higher prices linked to consumer demand for orange juice, the company said in federal Securities and Exchange Commission filings released Tuesday.
