Lighthouse Private Christian Academy won only one game last season. The Stingrays have already matched that win total in 2023.

They picked up that victory Aug. 25 with an 8-6 win over All Saints Academy at home. Anton Johnson rushed for the game-winning score in the fourth quarter.

On Aug. 26, Code Ninjas, an international afterschool learning center franchise with a focus on coding, held a grand opening for their Pensacola center. The center has actually been open since March 2023.

2023 marks 20th anniversary of Beaches to Woodlands tour

The Beaches to Woodlands tour is back for its 20th year.

The annual tourism initiative, which runs from September through November, features various activities across Santa Rosa County including concerts, outdoor markets, beer and wine festivals, pumpkin patches, the Navarre fishing rodeo and the Juana Good Time Regatta, just to name a few. This year, the tour kicks off with Bands on the Blackwater Sept. 1 in Milton.

In July, Walmart started remodeling sections of the store. The project is expected to be complete by October.

Brooks Bridge replacement project breaks ground

On Thursday, Aug. 24, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Brooks Bridge replacement project in Okaloosa County. The $171 million project includes constructing two new parallel bridges over the Santa Rosa Sound to increase bridge capacity and improve traffic flow.

Connor Mathews sat on a bench in the football fieldhouse late Friday night cutting tape off his ankles, the sting of a 34-27 overtime loss still fresh on his mind, the look of disappointment mixed in with the sweat on his face.

Mathews, running with all-out effort, often plowing through defenders for extra yards, had scored two touchdowns in a season opener against Catholic here on a brutally hot and humid evening at Bennett C Russell Stadium.
