Infrastructure, recreation among Eddington’s top priorities in 2024

Everyone seems to have New Year’s resolutions, even elected officials.

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Ray Eddington, who represents district four which includes Holley and Navarre, said he is looking forward to 2024 as an important year for expanding and improving south Santa Rosa County’s infrastructure, as well as its recreational opportunities.

When the new high school in the south end of Santa Rosa County opens its doors to students for the first time in 2026, it will be three floors, have 74 classrooms, CTE labs, a gym, a sports field house and athletic fields. It will have the capacity for 1,800 students.

State takes aim at Warren ruling

Tallahassee – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ lawyers Thursday asked a full federal appeals court to take up a battle about the suspension of Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren, saying a three-judge panel’s decision “stymies the governor’s supervisory power by enabling local officials to willfully neglect their duties for political reasons under the banner of ‘private speech.’”

Navarre Raiders finish as district runner-up in girls weightlifting

Dasia Wilder didn’t win a district championship Thursday in Niceville, but the junior weightlifting standout for the Navarre Raiders did earn runner-up honors in the traditional competition in the unlimited class.

For Wilder, it’s a big deal, especially being just her second year as a lifter. And her effort helped Navarre finish second as a team in both traditional and Olympic and take the first step towards state.
