Prepare for ‘active’ hurricane season, experts say

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an “above-normal” hurricane season. On May 23, NOAA announced they are forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total storms (winds of 39 mph or higher) with eight to 13 becoming hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher). Additionally, the organization says four to seven of those hurricanes could be classified as “major,” meaning category 3, 4 or 5 (with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Risen Savior preparing for second year of soccer camp

Last summer, Risen Savior Lutheran Church held a youth soccer camp to help children in kindergarten through sixth grade hone their athletic skills while also teaching them about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The multi-day event was such a success that Pastor Craig Born and the church have decided to bring it back for 2024.

Recently, our skies were the canvas for some spectacular natural phenomena – a solar eclipse and the northern lights. Despite having been born and raised in Canada, I cannot recall ever having seen the Northern Lights, yet people here in north Florida were posting stunning photos of them. My wife and I even doused the porchlight and stood in the driveway gazing into the northern night sky but saw not a glimmer. I woke up very early the next morning and decided to try again. It was raining. I still have not seen the Northern Lights.

Navarre Montessori Academy expanding

Navarre Montessori Academy (NMA) offers an educational program every June and July for six weeks. This program continues the Montessori early education experience for those enrolled in Montessori and gives a new experience to those new in our environment. The summer program is meant for students and non-students. This year, the program starts on June 10, 2024, and ends on July 18, 2024.

I’m learning new traditions and entitlements as my children get older, and I find myself having conversations with them that weren’t even a topic when I was their age. My daughter’s husbands have brought up evaluating jobs on how long they will have off for paternity leave when they start have babies or continue to do so. Really? I was lucky my husband was in this country when I had babies.

FHSAA changes replace word ‘gender’

Tallahassee – The State Board of Education on Wednesday approved changes in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s bylaws that include replacing mentions of the word “gender” with the word “sex,” amid a larger dispute between federal and state officials.
