Our own Hansen Hasenberg recently visited Springfield, Illinois, and brought back a story for our readers on the home of Abraham Lincoln.

On the corner of S 8th and Jackson Streets in Springfield, Illinois, history comes alive.

It is the site where Abraham Lincoln spent roughly 17 years of his adult life before moving into the White House.

Katelyn Weller killing it on volleyball court

As a ninth grader, Katelyn Weller looked up to Kyra McKelvey, a former Navarre Raider volleyball standout now playing collegiately at Southeastern Louisiana.

This past volleyball season, Weller put herself in the same sentence as McKelvey, breaking her single season kills record.

Navarre alum Emily (Madril) Sams and the Orlando Pride are one step closer to an NWSL championship.

Orlando dominated Chicago 4-1 in a quarterfinal game on Friday. Sams had an assist in the first ever postseason win for the Pride.

Rain doesn’t hamper Veterans Day in Navarre

Despite the rain, a crowd of over 50 people gathered beneath a pavilion at Navarre Park Monday, Nov. 11, to pay tribute to veterans and honor the sacrifices they and their families make. Each Nov. 11, groups such as American Legion Post 382, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 11367, Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, and local Scouting America (Boy Scout) troops gather at Navarre Park to celebrate Veterans Day.

What they aren’t doing is playing on a field of dreams as the fields at Navarre’s local soccer complex are from being in ideal condition.

Baby Nile hippo born at Gulf Breeze Zoo

The Gulf Breeze Zoo is proud to announce its newest member, a baby Nile hippopotamus. Cleopatra gave birth to a healthy male calf weighing approximately 75 pounds on September 23 after an 8-month pregnancy. Both mother and Chibuzo are in excellent condition and are on exhibit for viewing.

Navarre Beach Lifeguards celebrate another year of no drownings

This year has been eventful for the Navarre Beach Lifeguards. With over 1.7 million visitors to Navarre Beach during lifeguarding season (March through October), NBLG had to respond to a litany of issues including medical calls, missing persons, distressed swimmers and surfers, and code enforcements.
