Navarre, Pace and Jay have all earned at-large berths to their respective regional volleyball tournaments. And now, it’s win or go home time as the road to a state title begins.
With a minute or so remaining in the Beach Bowl, it was time for the Navarre Raiders to start celebrating on a cool October evening in Gulf Breeze.
The band played. The fans cheered. The players on the sideline were hyped. A group of cheerleaders stood on one of the benches tossing around an inflatable dolphin.
There was a chill in the air, the water was cool, but it didn’t take long for the competition to heat up at the Santa Rosa County meet Thursday at the Pullum YMCA in Navarre.
Tallahassee – Damages to farmers and ranchers from Hurricane Milton may double the statewide agricultural destruction from three other storms that pummeled Florida since August 2023, according to state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Wilton Simpson.

During the storm, a video showed a dog chained to a fence along Interstate 75 went viral.
With back-to-back holidays right around the corner, your garage is about to get a lot more cluttered storing boxes and boxes of decorations. We break out fall decorations first followed by Halloween and Thanksgiving. Shortly after that, people typically do the quick turn-around, packing up their orange and brown decor and trading it for holiday colors of reds and greens. Then, maybe we will unpack some glittery hats, streamers and party horns for the New Year.

I have admitted before in this column that I am a horrible horticulturist. My home is the place where plants go to die. Yet, as I type this column, outside my window sits a tall, lush basil plant – a picture of health. I had purchased it as a small plant along with a big bag of plant soil at the garden center earlier this year. With regular watering it did well for about a month, but one day it began to look tired and wilted. I gave it some plant food and more water. The plant must have assumed that was its last meal because it soon looked dead. I was about to add another plant to my list of kills until my wife said in passing, “I think your basil plant needs more soil.”
