Beach Bowl belongs to Navarre Raiders once again

With a minute or so remaining in the Beach Bowl, it was time for the Navarre Raiders to start celebrating on a cool October evening in Gulf Breeze.

The band played. The fans cheered. The players on the sideline were hyped. A group of cheerleaders stood on one of the benches tossing around an inflatable dolphin.

Make room for the holidays with Closets by Design

With back-to-back holidays right around the corner, your garage is about to get a lot more cluttered storing boxes and boxes of decorations. We break out fall decorations first followed by Halloween and Thanksgiving. Shortly after that, people typically do the quick turn-around, packing up their orange and brown decor and trading it for holiday colors of reds and greens. Then, maybe we will unpack some glittery hats, streamers and party horns for the New Year.

Local nonprofit Set Free Foundation is preparing for its first Designer Purse Bingo. It will be held Nov. 9, 2024, at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center at 6 p.m. All funds raised will be used to pay for trauma therapy for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Attendees will have the chance to win a purse playing bingo or any of the 10 raffle games. There will also be a door prize winner and you don’t want to miss out on the door prize! You can get your tickets on Facebook on their events page. You can also purchase tickets directly at www.givebutter.com/C960q5.

For God’s Sake

I have admitted before in this column that I am a horrible horticulturist. My home is the place where plants go to die. Yet, as I type this column, outside my window sits a tall, lush basil plant – a picture of health. I had purchased it as a small plant along with a big bag of plant soil at the garden center earlier this year. With regular watering it did well for about a month, but one day it began to look tired and wilted. I gave it some plant food and more water. The plant must have assumed that was its last meal because it soon looked dead. I was about to add another plant to my list of kills until my wife said in passing, “I think your basil plant needs more soil.”
