Jesters concerned about COVID, cancel parade

The Navarre Krewe of Jesters announced their decision Friday morning to cancel the 2021 Navarre Beach Mardi Gras Parade.
The decision was made with "heavy hearts," according to Charlene Tremor, president of the Krewe. She said general membership made the decision Wednesday night.

There are clearly two halves to Santa Rosa County, with a lot of open land in between along with a few homes and businesses.
There is south Santa Rosa County, known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant tourism, as well as being a “bedroom community” for about 70,000 residents. North Santa Rosa has more agriculture, history and a beautiful tannin-stained, spring fed river winding through it.

Windfelder ready to embrace new role as Navarre High’s principal

Kasie Windfelder is still in the midst of switching from her current office to the one reserved for the principal of Navarre High School.
Windfelder has only been in her new job for a week. There are boxes that still need to be moved – those are labeled and currently lined along a wall -- and painting that needs to be completed before she is officially settled into the principal’s office.

Fresh off a trip to North Carolina with their club team for a tournament, four Navarre Raiders were back with their teammates last Tuesday night and helped the Raiders pick up a 3-0 win over Fort Walton Beach.
Emma Simon, Megan Kirby and Hunter Wallace all scored goals for Navarre in the first shutout victory of the season. Cami Acevedo also made the trip and played a key role defensively in the win.

Winter officially starts in Santa Rosa County Monday, Dec. 21. The shorter days and lower temperatures are the most obvious traits of this annual cycle.
The local birds and animals are aware of the difference more keenly than the human residents, mostly because of the reduced volume of available food.

It’s been a busy week in Santa Rosa County and that’s not even including folks getting ready for Christmas.
Last week, county commissioners narrowly voted to repeal protections that help keep the wells in south Santa Rosa County safe.
