Limiting public comment at proposed task force meetings?

It was really fun to watch Santa Rosa County Commissioners meet in a workshop setting. There was no sniping, no squabbling, no grandstanding, no name calling. It was refreshing to see this board get down to the real work of the citizens of the county. Getting rid of the troublemakers in the last election really elevated this commission and made it a pleasure to watch. Now we can see the real side of the commissioners that care about the county as they roll up their sleeves to get the work done.

State Sen. Gaetz suffers ‘medical emergency’ at Milton event

A celebration of the lives of two former Santa Rosa County Sheriffs turned into a scary situation Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, in Milton.

State Sen. Don Gaetz, 77, suffered what has been described as a “medical emergency” during his remarks at a roadway dedication ceremony. The ceremony was in honor of Bart D. and John R. Broxson, two former Santa Rosa County Sheriffs and members of the well-known Broxson family.

U-Haul dealership planned for Fourth Street in Navarre

Fourth Street in Navarre may soon have a U-Haul dealership.

Leah Rojecki, who owns land in between Fourth Street and the Exxon gas station which connects to Highway 98, has notified Santa Rosa County Development Services of her intent to add a business to the property.

Navarre Chamber’s Roaring 20s Snowbirds event a hit with local businesses, tourists

The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated Snowbirds and 100 years of Navarre history with a ‘Roaring 20s’ Snowbird Festival, hosted at St. Sylvester Catholic Church.

The Chamber annually holds snowbird events, including a festival. This year’s festival was put on with the collaboration of the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Office and a variety of sponsors and vendors.

Arrest made in Tiger Point Park vandalism

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an act of vandalism and property damage which led to the destruction of soccer fields at Tiger Point Park has led to the arrest of a suspect. Chance Tate, 20, of Gulf Breeze, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 17, and charged with damaging property with criminal mischief.

Condemned homes on Avenida De Sol being torn down

Centers of controversy for years, two homes on Avenida De Sol which were prone to flooding are no more.

Purchased by Santa Rosa County in late Summer 2024 from their homeowners, the houses at 2252 and 2260 Avenida De Sol were torn down Jan. 14 and 15.

Is Florida headed toward a deficit of $6.9 billion?

On Jan. 9 at the Santa Rosa County Legislative Delegation meeting, Rep. Alex Andrade and Sen. Don Gaetz discussed the funding of various projects. The state has worked with a surplus in its budget over the past few years, but now Florida is trending toward a deficit of more than $6 billion.

Gas station planned for Highway 98, near Edgewood Drive

A convenience store with fuel pumps is planned for 6827 Gulf Breeze Parkway, on the southside of Highway 98, near the southern terminus of Edgewood Drive. According to plans submitted to Santa Rosa County Development Services, the store will be approximately 6,372 sq. ft. with a 9,909 sq. ft. fuel canopy. Under the fuel canopy, there will be 10 pumps.
