Johnson promoted to Chief Deputy

Major Bob Johnson of the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office has been promoted to Chief Deputy with the organization.  Johnson is the first to serve as Chief Deputy since Sheriff Wendell Hall was sworn into office in the year 2000.

Holley convenience store robbed at knifepoint

At approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, Underwood Food Mart on Highway 87 South, former site of Tom Thumb, was robbed at knifepoint by an unknown assailant.  According to a release issued by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, the subject fled in a gray Lexus north on Highway 87 and east on I-10.  The car was found abandoned by the subject in Okaloosa County.  The subject was apprehended and is being questioned.

Navarre woman arrested in prostitution sting

Camillia Rushing, 23, of Frontera St. in Navarre, was arrested Friday Oct.2 and charged with solicitation for prostitution in conjunction with an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office prostitution sting operation, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Country on the Sound worst-organized concert

I just returned from the Country on the Sound Concert (early I might add, after only being there for about 30-45 minutes) worst-organized concert ever.  First I had to walk 1/2 mile to get my ticket scrutinized and be reminded that there were to be no chairs, coolers, guns, grenades, alcohol or other foreign objects in the concert area. (This was strictly enforced by at least 25 of Santa Rosa’s finest). I would think that an outdoor concert would allow for such things as coolers and chairs.  If you wanted to disobey the law this would have been the night.

This Sunday, the Navarre Sea Turtle Conservation Center will hold a Trash Bash in order to keep our seas debris free. The event is from 8 to 10 a.m. and collection bags will be provided to volunteers.

Gulf Breeze sees risk in golf course rehab

Financial estimates by the City of Gulf Breeze show that it could rehab Tiger Point Golf Club’s controversial west course, and also expand its existing wastewater treatment plant there for millions of dollars less than building a new sewage facility at the alternative Bergren Road site.
