We just enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day weekend in Navarre, and the “official” end of summer. However, that isn’t the case for those of us that live here. One of the best-kept secrets – if there is one anymore – is how beautiful Navarre Beach is during this time of year when most of our visitors have headed home. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy our beautiful water and shores for months after the “official” end of summer.  And, if you are a surfer, the season has just begun. This time of year, in tourism lingo, is called, “The Shoulder Season.” This is the time between when the tourists leave and the tourists (Snowbirds) return in December.  And – this is the reason that “Beaches to Woodlands” came into existence. 

All-star concert to raise funds for Black Hawk memorial

Downtown Milton’s historic Imogene Theatre will be the stage for the Southern Rock All-Star Jam Sept. 11 and 12.  Members from the iconic bands Molly Hatchet, Atlanta Rhythm Section and Georgia Satellites and others will join forces on stage for the special event to raise money for the Black Hawk memorial.

Blue ribbons show support for law enforcement

It was a simple message.  “Would our town be interested in showing support for police officers on September 26th-30th? Many other cities in the U.S. are showing their support on this month. I am willing to make lots of blue bows if I can get the ribbon this week. We could “paint the town blue” to show our appreciation,” wrote Tina Bridges on a local social media site. 

School district and teachers reach agreement

After 33 meetings spanning more than a year of contract negotiations, the Santa Rosa School District and Santa Rosa Professional Educators came to an agreement August 28.  The agreement must still be ratified, but both sides are confident that it will be.

Now that students are wrapping up their second week of school, they’re falling into a rhythm and solidifying their schedules. But nothing can screw up extracurricular activities more than an unreliable school bus route.
