The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce announced March 6 that Country artist, singer and songwriter Chris Stapleton will headline the 30th Annual Navarre Fun Fest, performing at 7:45 p.m., April 26 on the Florida Lottery Stage on Navarre Beach. Stapleton has four #1 country hits to his credit including “Never Wanted Nothing More” recorded by Kenny Chesney, “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright” recorded by George Strait and “Come Back Song” recorded by Darius Rucker. Additionally more than 170 of his songs have appeared on albums by country stars like Adele, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley and Alan Jackson. In 2013, Stapleton released his first solo single, “What Are You Listening To” which climbed to #46 on U.S. country music charts. Florida Native and Nashville recording artist, Chad Montana will be opening for Chris Stapleton at 5:30 p.m. with the Chad Montana Band.

While many in Florida think first of tropical systems and severe weather, tornadoes can strike any time of the year with strong early-season twisters often targeting northwest Florida.
Former state senator Charles Clary has been issued a $6,300 citation for clearing land without a permit last October. The incident resulted in the destruction of protected trees on a roughly 3.5-acre parcel he owns on U.S. 98 near Cotton Bay Estates subdivision.
A jury found Ernest Parker, 52, a former employee of the closed Milton Girls Juvenile Residential Facility, guilty of three counts of sexual misconduct March 6. He will be sentenced April 16 and faces a maximum of 45 years in prison.
Work to add an additional north bound left turn lane and turn signal on to U.S. 98 from the Navarre Beach Causeway will begin next week. Currently the intersection has a dedicated right turn lane and one left turn lane.
Before the recession, the Holley Navarre Water District had 56 employees, and now they are down by nine. Eight positions were approved to be opened at the February board meeting. “Some will be installing meters and some will be pipe layers,” said General Manager, Ken Walker. The pay rate will be $10 per hour for most positions, “which is our minimum wage,” said Walker. Walker made note of the recent statement by President Obama. The new employees will also assist the district to go from radio reading meters from a truck driving by to meters being read by towers.
Just when you thought it wouldn’t happen…foundation plans for the new hotel to be constructed on Navarre Beach have been submitted to the county. Doster Construction Company is the contractor of record.
Don Richards, president of the United Peninsula Association, announced that he would be resigning from his position at a meeting Feb. 25 at Tiger Point Golf Club.
