Milton man sentenced for threatening school

A Milton was sentenced May 14 to three years in prison and two years probation on a charge of aggravated stalking stemming from threats he made against a school in Colorado the same day a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

Governments approved for FEMA help

West Navarre Intermediate teacher named Rookie of the Year

Corrina Nelson, a fourth-grade teacher at West Navarre Intermediate, has been named the 2014 Rookie of the Year. Fellow teachers nominate a rookie each year, and the winners from each of the district’s 33 public schools are up for the top honor, ultimately selected by the Santa Rosa Education Foundation.

SAFER annual meeting full of information

About 50 community leaders and volunteers turned out May 7 for SAFER’s 2014 annual meeting. Safer, the Support Alliance for Community Readiness, is the successor organization to the Santa Rosa Long Term Recovery Organization which developed after Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis.

Incorporation heads to voters

Gov. Rick Scott May 12 signed numerous bills approved during the 2014 legislative session, and one bill gives voters in the Southwest Florida community of Estero the ability to choose whether or not they would like to become the state’s newest incorporated town.
