Navarre tenant claims home should be condemned

Grand theft at West Navarre Primary

It hasn’t been a good final year for West Navarre Primary School Principal Sandi Eubanks, who is set to retire in November. At the end of April during the historic rain event, her school received the worst flooding damage of any Santa Rosa school. During cleanup efforts, her school was hit by grand theft with the loss estimated at more than $10,000 but less than $20,000.

For the second consecutive year, a tourist visiting Navarre Beach from Louisiana has died in the Gulf of Mexico. In both cases, the victims entered the water in red flag conditions and were west of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, not in the designated swimming area patrolled by Navarre Beach lifeguards.

Clean community names new director

Santa Rosa Clean Community has picked a new director to lead the organization following the unexpected Feb. 24, 2014, passing of beloved director John Tonkin, who had served in the role since he was hired in 1988. Kevin Smith will take over as director June 19.

Another courthouse option added

About 75 people attended a judicial facility workshop held at the Tiger Point Community Center May 27. Commissioners heard from numerous citizens about proposed future courthouse sites. Ultimately they decided to add an offer of free property in East Milton to the ballot as a second site option with a parcel the board previously selected for purchase.

Transportation Symposium helps leaders address needs

The West Florida Regional Planning Council (WFRPC) hosted the Second Annual Transportation Symposium May 29 and 30 at the Pensacola Beach Hilton. The event was targeted to bring together professionals and policymakers to openly discuss ways to adapt the area’s transportation system to economic and environmental realities.
