When a group of burglars broke into an Eglin Federal Credit Union ATM on Navarre Parkway last week they had no idea what was awaiting them. The four black male suspects were apprehended on multiple charges stemming from a burglary ring involving the theft of safes and ATMs.
Local management staff with the National Park Service ignited a storm of controversy last week after announcing plans to charge hefty fees to use the sole island connector uniting Navarre and Pensacola beaches.
Florida House District 3 Rep. Doug Broxson held a press conference Dec. 1 to provide an update the Garcon Point Bridge toll situation. Broxson is teaming up with local leaders to lead the charge against a proposed toll increase on the 3.5-mile span.
Trustees for investors who own the privately funded Garcon Point Bridge are pushing for another toll hike. Florida House District 3 Rep. Doug Broxson said that’s a bad idea, but others hope such a move might spur a public push for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) buyout.
Presently there is no fee to drive along Earl Bowden Way, the scenic island corridor between Navarre and Pensacola beaches. However, local park service employees are proposing a change which would result in a $15 charge to use the sole beach connector road located within Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS).
