It’s been seven years since Santa Rosa County rebranded Navarre Beach from Florida’s “Best Kept Secret” to the state’s “Most Relaxing Place,” but Commissioner James Calkins still resents the change.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deputy David Daniels Tuesday, Jan. 24, on a felony lewd and lascivious charge.
On Monday, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was informed that a report of misconduct had been made against Daniels to the Department of Children and Families. Immediately after receiving the report, the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes detectives began to investigate the reported incident.
The National Weather Service in Mobile is predicting severe weather conditions in the overnight hours of Tuesday night for our area. Santa Rosa County has been placed under an enhanced risk for severe weather.
Main threats include Tornadoes (a strong (EF2+) tornado is possible) and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, the line of storms will move east of I-65 during the overnight hours after midnight and impact the western Florida Panhandle during this time.
Finally! More than 20 years in the making, the new Santa Rosa County Courthouse began serving the First Judicial District of Florida and county courts today, Jan. 16.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person injured in the early morning hours Saturday, Jan. 14.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at the 5500 block of Sea Spray Court in Navarre.
Ginny Davis, who has been described as ‘the face of Emergency Management’ because of her efforts to educate residents about disaster preparedness at community events, is the Santa Rosa County Employee of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of 2022. Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has gone to the dogs! Or, at least, they are very excited about telling the community about them. The law enforcement agency recently started an initiative to reach out to the community and positively engage them in what the K9 unit does. As a part of that initiative, the Sheriff’s Office has created a special set of trading cards that highlight the various K9s in the unit.
Milton — Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) is celebrating 70 years of providing healthcare services to Santa Rosa County and will host an alumni luncheon for past employees in mid-January.
“After seven decades, it’s amazing to know Santa Rosa Medical Center continues to provide the community with healthcare services they need – closer to home,” said Justin Serrano, interim chief executive officer. “We pride ourselves in being this community’s hospital and we want to celebrate this achievement with the people that have helped keep us going.”
A property owner is asking the Santa Rosa County Zoning Board to recommend rezoning 41.8 acres of vacant agricultural land on State Road 87 in East Milton for commercial use.
The board will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at the County Administration Complex, 6495 Caroline St. in Milton.
