Santa Rosa County’s newest ambassador, Myrtle the Turtle has found a home at the I-10 Florida Welcome Center greeting visitors to the Sunshine State and promoting tourism for Santa Rosa County.
Setting the standard for giving a hand up instead of a hand out, Fresh Start for Children and Families in Fort Walton Beach is changing lives nine families at a time. The program provides transitional housing for families where mom or dad are gainfully employed or employable and remain drug and alcohol free for the duration of the nine month program. The apartment house has nine apartments, both one and two bedrooms.
Relay for Life Navarre took place Friday night into Saturday raising more than $64,000 so far. And while the walk is over, the work is still on-going. Fundraisers for the event will continue into August to help the organization meet their $100,000 goal.

Under perfect weather conditions, 125 runners made their way to the start line of the first Cobia Run 5K/10K on Navarre Beach Saturday morning. Proceeds from the run benefited Bright Skies Foundation, a non-profit organized to help patients and families who are struggling with depression, dementia, and Parkinson’s. The foundation pays for prescriptions, provides counselors, family counseling, travel expenses, home health care and meals.
At around 9:20 p.m. Saturday night, a motorcycle collided with the back of a Nissan Exterra on Navarre Parkway and the driver of the bike was air lifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition.
The Holley-Navarre Water System is seeking conditional-use of land that it has owned for 10 years to build two Rapid Infiltration Basin Systems (RIBS) to effectively eliminate treated waste water otherwise known as reclaimed water or effluent. There will be no mechanical building or equipment on the site of the RIBS and the entire site will be fenced for safety and security.
