Navarre’s girls soccer team has been waiting since last season for a chance to return to a District 1-6A championship game.

Eliminated in the semifinal round a year ago, the top-seeded Raiders didn’t let history repeat itself, rolling to a 4-0 win over Tate Friday.

Dasia Wilder didn’t win a district championship Thursday in Niceville, but the junior weightlifting standout for the Navarre Raiders did earn runner-up honors in the traditional competition in the unlimited class.

For Wilder, it’s a big deal, especially being just her second year as a lifter. And her effort helped Navarre finish second as a team in both traditional and Olympic and take the first step towards state.

Kaitlyn Lawson saw the ball deflected in the box and rolling in her direction. Here on a chilly senior night against Choctaw at Bennett C Russell Stadium, the Pensacola State signee was on a mission to put that ball in the back of the net in the final minute.

If there is one thing Navarre’s boys basketball team has done this season it’s compete.

Of its eight losses through the first 18 games of the season, only four have been by double digits.

After head coach Garrett Bagley gave a pep talk to the team Friday night, Izzy Zach took a moment to say a few words to the team in the wake of a runner-up finish for the Raider girls weightlifting team at its own invitational.

She was certainly pleased about the two gold medals around her neck, one for winning her weight class (183) in Olympic, and the other for a victory in traditional.

Ultimately, a goal five minutes into the second half of Navarre’s boys soccer game against Milton Thursday night was the difference between winning and losing.

And that goal was scored as a result of a gutsy play by the Raiders, who edged the Panthers 2-1 on senior night at Bennett C Russell Stadium.
