Curious Apples raising funds for child with cancer

Curious Apples, a day care and voluntary prekindergarten in Navarre, is used to providing care for children and their families, but this time that care is extending far beyond the walls of the business.

Recently, one of Curious Apples’ students was diagnosed with leukemia. Jackson Durward, 4, has been at Curious Apples for over a year and has ingratiated himself with the staff. When the staff at the day care/VPK found out about Jackson’s condition, they knew they had to help.

Questions arise over school bus stop-arm cameras amongst locals

Earlier this month, several members of the Facebook group, “Navarre Locals,” posted about receiving tickets for failing to stop for school buses. In Florida, it is a violation of the law to pass a school bus that is stopped and picking up or dropping off students.

Many of those who posted felt they had been involved in scenarios where they didn’t deserve a ticket. Erica G. made a post Feb. 12 describing an incident in which she failed to stop for a bus at a red light.

Vietnam vet has passion for model making, family history

Surrounded by pictures of friends, family and mementos of a lifetime, Milton “Mickey” Reade tinkers away with one of his latest model airplanes.

Reade, 78, estimates he has completed around 65 model airplanes and ships, many of which are displayed prominently throughout his Midway home. Much of his collection is in what Reade calls his “heritage room,” a small bedroom which has been transformed into a sort of office.

Raider flag football team notches win in district opener

If there’s one thing Navarre’s flag football team knows it can count on this year, it’s the defense.


That much was evident in a District 1-3A win against Crestview Thursday night as the Raiders cashed in on two interceptions for touchdowns to fuel a 19-0 victory over the Bulldogs on a chilly evening at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

No help for Mulat Bayou

The overnight rain Feb. 18-19 brought more red clay down the drainage ways from behind Damon Drive Cottages and fed it into Mulat Bayou. The residents nearby say there are no solutions in sight and no help on the horizon.

Raider girls weightlifting program remains one of best in Florida

Navarre’s girls weightlifting program consistently finishes in the top five in the state and has even won seven state championships, the last in 2022.


This year was no exception for the Raiders, who placed fourth in traditional and fifth in Olympic at the 3A meet in Lakeland two weeks ago.
