Navarre Chamber’s Annual Health & Business Expo is this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Navarre High School. The theme of this year’s Expo is “Showcasing the Heartbeat of Navarre.” There will be free health screenings with interactive booths and activities from local health care providers and local businesses, included Navarre Press. We will be writing prescriptions for “Acluism.” Of course, a subscription to Navarre Press is the right prescription for that dreaded disease. There has been a new feature added this year. There will be a Physician Q&A panel. To see the information on the panel, open up the Health and Business Expo guide enclosed in this issue.

A Navarre business found itself under the microscope Tuesday morning, July 22.
Federal law enforcement officials from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a raid on Emerald Coast Lawns, a lawn care service located on Highway 87 S across from CEFCO in Navarre, Tuesday morning, July 22. The raid led to two arrests, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office confirms.

We love watching the “kids” of Navarre grow up, graduate, go to college – and decide to come back home to establish themselves. In this case, I’m talking about Grady and Eliana Kelly. Grady played for the Navarre Raiders and is a superstar football player in his last year at Michigan State – he may even have a shot at the NFL. He and his wife (also an alum of Navarre High School) are expecting a baby in October and have come home to open a business. Brian Lester reached out to them to do a story (page 1B). They talk about their faith being a driving force and wanting to pour back into a community that means so much to them. We are glad to have them home and wish them great success!

As far as I could tell, everyone had good time at the Centennial Ball Saturday. I want to give a shoutout to some people that made the event happen. I was just one person on the committee, and I started going to committee meetings regularly just a few months ago. The Centennial Ball was made possible by Frankie and Barbara Gibbs, Mike and Nancy Sandler, Andy Epstein and Craig Born. Also, shoutout to the volunteers from Risen Savior Lutheran Church that helped clean up after the event, and to St. Michael’s for making a commemorative beer named “1925” for this special year in Navarre.
Williamson’s $100,000 a year consolation prize

Navarre voters overwhelmingly said “no” to Rob Williamson as District 4 County Commissioner in the August election. They used their votes to voice their displeasure with his representation, his decisions and his financial management of Navarre. Holley Navarre Water System has decided Williamson deserves a high-paying consolation prize with an offer to be their next CFO/CEO. Yes, sir – $100,000 per year for two years, platinum benefits as only the water company has and probably a company truck or SUV. In fact, they offered him the position without having a job description for the new position, qualifications or much else – probably because Williamson has zero qualifications for the job. He has no wastewater treatment experience, no water management experience, he has never directly managed a multi-million dollar budget nor the number of employees the water system has. What are they thinking. It is fairly obvious this has been their Plan B since he lost the election…or maybe before then.
Tiger Point area man attacked by bear

A 45-year-old Tiger Point man was sent to the hospital after a bear attacked him Thursday morning, May 15.
The attack happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the backyard of the man’s home in the 1500 block of Joseph Circle. During the attack, he was bit in the leg. After deputies responded, the man was sent to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with a non-life-threatening injury.
