County addresses Navarre gas leaks

Between June and July, Holley-Navarre Fire Department responded to 11 separate gas leaks – each caused by fiber optic boring activity. The fiber lines, most owned by Live Oak Fiber, inadvertently struck underground gas lines maintained by Okaloosa Gas District, prompting repeated shelter-in-place orders for local residents.

Teens learn firefighting trade at Holley-Navarre Fire District cadet program

School may not be in session yet, but that doesn’t mean some teens aren’t already learning.

Holley-Navarre Fire District held its summer cadet program Monday, July 28 through Friday, Aug. 1, at Station 45. The cadet program, in its third year, is a weeklong, hands-on opportunity to learn more about the fire service and what goes into being a firefighter.

Navarre First Assembly holds annual Day of Hope to help area families

Aug. 2 marked the 2025 edition of ‘Day of Hope,’ an annual community outreach event for Navarre First Assembly of God.

During Day of Hope, Navarre area families received free backpacks, school supplies, children’s haircuts, lunch and groceries. Pastor Jon Skipper said the long-standing tradition of giving to those in need comes from Jesus Christ himself.

Navarre Beach Boardwalk Project met with questions, plans to be retooled

STOA Architects, Inc. shared updates on the Navarre Beach Boardwalk Project and new Navarre Beach welcome center with the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners during their biweekly commission committee meeting July 21. The project and plans presented to the board feature an elevated beach walkway, a main boardwalk complex with spaces for around eight vendors or local artisans, a food truck plaza and an open pavilion.
