Navarre welcomes world-class ballet training through new local studio

A new cultural gem has quietly taken root in Navarre. Navarre Classical Ballet, a subsidiary of the 501c3 non-profit Performing Arts Cultural Exchange Foundation, is bringing internationally recognized classical ballet training to the community—while making it accessible to adults of all ages.

“People keep telling us the same thing,” director Sheila Willis Kleiman said. “They’ve been waiting for something like this.”

Court is in session: A look at Navarre High’s Mock Trial Team

Most people don’t want to find themselves in a courtroom appearing before a judge, but for Navarre High School’s Mock Trial Team, it’s a privilege.

Led by teacher Ray Gentry, the team consists of around 16 students. Recently, the team went to a trial competition against other schools in Florida’s First Circuit. The competition was held at Escambia County Courthouse in Pensacola.

School bus involved crash claims life in Navarre

Sandra Williams, a 71-year-old woman died after striking the back of a school bus in the eastbound left lane of Highway 98 Wednesday, March 11. The incident occurred near Sunrise Drive in Navarre.

Holley-Navarre Fire District was dispatched to the scene at 1:50 p.m. and found the woman’s vehicle, a Chevrolet, partially underneath the school bus.

Around 2:05 p.m., a paramedic with HNFD declared the driver deceased.

Holley Navarre Water board strategic planning strategy leads to debate

Holley Navarre Water System board of directors met Feb. 17 to discuss, among other things, strategic planning options.

Earlier this year, the board told HNWS staff of its desire to create a five-year strategic plan. The plan would lay out a series of goals for the system and how the board could reach them with respect to budget constraints.

While South Santa Rosa County may not be the agricultural boon that the north end is, one classroom at West Navarre Intermediate School is working to ensure students grow in their agricultural knowledge.

Fourth-grade teacher Michelle Tucker has introduced plants, chickens and other agricultural subjects to her students for at least the past three years.
