Motorcycle accident leaves driver critical

At around 9:20 p.m. Saturday night, a motorcycle collided with the back of a Nissan Exterra on Navarre Parkway and the driver of the bike was air lifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition.

HIV awareness campaign urges testing for citizens

Driving through many parts of Escambia County, you might have noticed billboards with advertisements of a different kind. As part of an ongoing HIV awareness campaign, the Florida Department of Health has been putting up these large ads, urging citizens to get tested. Because of elevated numbers for HIV/AIDS cases in the county, the continuance of this and other public awareness campaigns have unfortunately been necessary in recent years.

Historical Society names board members

The newly formed Holley-Navarre Historical Society held their first meeting Saturday and elected a board of directors for the group. Romi White, one of the organization’s founders, took no nominations from the floor. Instead, she nominated Connie Clarke as president, James Broxson as vice-president and Dee May as secretary/treasurer. While a few in the audience were unaware of who those people were, the vote went forward and the board installed. Two of the three board members were not present at the meeting.
