In-state tourism marketing boost sought

Money to market in-state tourism would increase under a budget proposal filed Monday by Rep. Jayer Williamson, R-Pace. Williamson, who filed 19 separate budget requests on Monday that totaled $26 million, included a proposal for $2 million to assist the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association for its “coordinated marketing, media and events program to promote Florida tourism to residents of the state.”

Jay High School seeks to rename gym after legendary coach

Benjamin H. West II, Principal of Jay High School, recently stood before the Santa Rosa County School Board to request that the Facilities Naming Committee convene to consider renaming the gymnasium at JHS after one of its longtime coaches.

Coach John C. Smith worked in Santa Rosa County Schools for 40 years, 36 of which were spent as the head basketball coach at JHS.
